Senior Data Engineer

Data & Analytics at 10x is a first-class citizen of the core banking platform, designed from the earliest stages to be tightly integrated with the data infrastructure implemented by all the core services. This means, as a senior data engineer working on the team, you’ll have the opportunity to design and develop an innovative system unlike anything else in the industry.

From day one you’ll be working on improving the capabilities of our data platform and providing value to our users. From exposing data to analysts through data visualisation UIs to engineering our real-time machine learning pipeline, super-charging workflows for data scientists. We embrace the use of open-source software to achieve this, much of it at the bleeding edge of development.

Expect to be finding answers to questions that have no 1-line Googleable answer, every day.

Responsibilities

  • Write and deploy software for the Data & Analytics platform
  • Work as part of the Data & Analytics team, currently 5 members and growing
  • Help mentor junior members of the team
  • Support the D&A team lead in a design capacity, offering your domain expertise in data engineering to solve challenging problems

Requirements

  • Professional experience programming in Java within the last two years
  • At least six years’ experience as a software developer (not QA, analyst, database admin, operations)
  • Professional experience with big data technologies within the last two years
  • Professional experience with Kafka (or another similar messaging system) within the last 5years.
  • Professional experience with AWS in the last five years or extensive experience with other cloud platforms
  • Has been responsible for code running in production within the last three years
  • Good understanding of machine learning concepts
  • Good understanding of microservice base architectures & able to have an in-depth technical discussion about its benefits & drawbacks
  • Fundamental understanding of database systems & trade-offs between different styles of database
  • Comfortable in an agile environment
  • Demonstrable high levels of integrity and desire to make a positive impact within the business and society
  • An enthusiastic self-starter who looks for new ways of working, explores best practices and delivers imaginative approaches to communication challenges
  • An enthusiastic team player excited by the prospect of being a key member of a financial services technology firm that is working to transform the industry

  • Someone who isn’t a developer first, e.g. QA, data analyst, database administrator, dev-ops
